| Bill and Donna organize fund raiser for Bonaire’s water quality sensor program In the Spring of 2009, we were alerted of the need for a quantitative water quality monitoring program on Bonaire. This was needed to convince the government that much better sewage treatment was needed if Bonaire’s reefs were to survive. This program required the installation of three small sensors at designated points along the island’s western side. Unfortunately there was no funding for STINAPA (the marine park organization) to execute the program. Divers all over the world responded with cash donations. We did our part by organizing a benefit at a local dive shop (Mark DiGiorgio, owner of ScubaVentures, generously provided the space, refreshments, discount cards for participants and the projector for a movie of Bonaire’s underwater marvels. See a photograph of the water-quality monitoring sensors below. This also led to a wonderful new friendship with STINAPA’s manager, Ramon de Leon. |
