Bill’s photograph influences Caymanian vote

In August 2009, Caymanian newspapers ran a large, full-color picture of my award-winning photograph of a Nassau grouper
taken in Caymanian waters. In the accompanying article, the reporter repeated what I said about the groupers being more
plentiful in the preserves where no fishing or spear guns are permitted. I also went on at some length about how groupers have
a lot in common with dogs and who wants to “eat their Golden Retriever?”

Totally by coincidence, a week later the government voted on a new bill to ban all spear fishing for grouper in all Caymanian
territorial waters with no grandfather clause that would have allowed the older Caymanians the right to continue spear fishing.
The bill passed. Informed sources reported that there was a definite link between my article and the passage of the bill
prohibiting spear fishing for all species of grouper.

Incidentally, most species of grouper are seriously overfished and the entire grouper fishery is in danger of collapsing
